POLONEZ is a new funding possibility for postdoctoral researchers from outside Poland to conduct 12 or 24-months research projects at a partner institution in Poland. Funding includes salary (c. 3400 EUR gross per month), mobility allowance (c. 250 EUR gross per month), family allowance (c. 250 EUR gross per month) and project funding (80 000 PLN/ c. 20000 EUR per 12 months or 192 000 PLN/ c. 48000 EUR per 24 months, allowing to cover travel costs, buy books, fund a stipend for one PhD student, etc.). The earliest possible date of starting the project is September 2016. Finding research partners at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw.
Providing information about research possibilities, libraries and archives, seminars, running research projects, strengths of the Polish historiography, gaps to fill, fields to explore.

- Providing practical information about visa requirements, accommodation, living standards, etc.
- All other assistance needed.

The University of Warsaw is an important centre of research in Ancient History, with particular strengths in Late Antiquity, Early Christianity, and Papyrology. Currently two major projects in this field are run at the Institute: the Oxford-based Cult of Saints Project (http://cultofsaints.modhist.ox.ac.uk/) and the Presbyters in the Late Antique West Project (http://www.presbytersproject.ihuw.pl/). Other fields of interest include: Archaic and Classical Greece, Homeric studies, early Roman Republic and the city of Rome, Roman Empire, history of Jews in Antiquity.

As a leading centre of medieval studies in Central Europe, the Institute of History gathers specialists working within all fields of European History of the period. Research is mainly focused on religious and social history of the Early and High Middle Ages, with a special interest in Poland and Central Europe, as well as the history of this region in the Late Middle Ages, including economic history. Other important fields of interests are: Carolingian studies, France in the High Middle Ages, Islamic Spain, and auxiliary sciences of history.

Early Modern History is a lively, fast growing field of research at the Institute of History. It covers a broad range of subjects from the tangled power relations in the Early Modern Caucasus to the comparative studies on state propaganda in 18th-century Europe. The study of Polish, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, and Jewish history is a major point of focus. Some of our more specific interests include the history of diplomacy, economy, ideas, political thought, religion, society, and warfare.
